Exploring the backroads of the Southern Downs inspires artist Dawn Head Rose to create the beautiful landscapes which comprise her artworks.
“As I drive home, I like to capture the cloud effects over the landscapes,” Ms Head Rose said.
Ms Head Rose has returned to the district after many years in Western Queensland and says the changing landscapes is one of her favourite things about this area.
“I love the diversity of landscapes in this area. It doesn’t take long to drive to an area with waterfalls or wineries. From here the terrain changes to the boulders of the Granite Belt. The people of this area make the most of all that they have.”
Ms Head Rose will be one of the artists in the expanded Killarney Artisans area at the Killarney Picnic Basket Day, where local artist will be working and displaying their artworks for sale.
This is the second time the award-winning artist will be part of the Picnic Basket Day. Ms Head Rose says her favourite part of the day is chatting to people about her work.
“I enjoy seeing people leaving every trouble behind for a few hours, sitting on the lawns and enjoying each other’s company”, she said.
Other artists who will be featured include Loretta Grayson, Di Kelly, Anna Irorere, Jan Allan, Robert & Jan Laws, Marie Galloway, Hilary Edmondstone and Paul Stumkat.
Visitors to Killarney Picnic Basket Day are invited to bring their picnic blanket and chairs to set up on the grounds and enjoy food from a wide variety of stalls, delight in the giant kites and be entertained by raffles and musicians at the relaxed event.
Proceeds from the day to Livin’ and the QCWA Public Rural Crisis Fund.
Killarney’s Picnic Basket Day will be held on Sunday 7 April 2019, from 10am to 4pm at Melrose Station.
